Our PC switch off evening saved a tonne of carbon in one night

Just thought I'd let you all know that our PC switch off evening was a great success.
-
The switch off involved over 59 customers joining our green community and together we managed to turn off approximately 700 PCs.  This successfully produced a total energy saving of a tonne of carbon in just one night.  The CO2 saving is equivalent to the emissions generated by ten passengers on a return flight from London to Paris.
-
-
If our green community continued to switch off their PCs every evening from now on, that would produce an annual saving of around 438 tonnes of carbon – equivalent to over 21 full flights making the round trip from London to Paris!
Some of our customers joined in for the following reasons:
-

1. MTC Ltd: “I believe switching off electronic equipment when it is not required is a  good practice to encourage.”

2. J J Browne & Son (Jewellers) Ltd: “To be environmentally friendly”

3. Quma Systems Limited: “Energy savings make sense!”

4. Long Eaton Software: “We like to do our bit.”

5. Pile Associates: “Committed to environment”

6. Chatham Chest: “Conscience”

7. CB Direct Mail Services: “We all need to look at ways to save energy”

8. Whisky Castle Ltd: “Curiosity and perhaps to make a difference”

9. European Nickel Plc:“This is my world and I want to live healthy”

10. Quocirca:“Interested in results”

-
This was a great success for us and with the support of our green community we will be working on future initiatives.

For a bit of fun and to raise our internal awareness for us all; to ensure we continue to lower our carbon footprint, we have been enjoying some green activities.

-

These have included a “no print day”; where all staff have not been allowed to print for the day, to reduce our paper and energy usage; a “wear it green” and “grow your own greens” initiative also took place, check out our cress heads, see what you think of some of the teams contributions so far…

Cresslshdand as some of us live too far away to be able to cycle to work, we’re having a cycle at work day, which has also become a little competitive!
